Whether this is your first time hearing about newborn photography or not, you might be wondering when is the right time to both book and schedule this shoot for your little one. This is one of the major questions future parents often ask. Understandably, expecting a baby is a very exciting but also stressful time. Being prepared and thinking ahead can alleviate some of this pre-baby stress.
The best time to get in touch with us and book your newborn shoot is at least 2 months before your due date. When speaking to parents about picking a day for their shoot, we aim for the period of the first 1-3 weeks after birth. However, for various reasons, this is not always possible. So what happens if you've missed this window?
Oops, I Have Missed The Window For a Newborn Session, What Should I Do?
Don't despair! Oftentimes, due to reasons beyond our control, it is impossible to arrange a newborn photoshoot so early on. For example, your baby might have to stay in the hospital a little longer, or you might not be ready to leave the house just yet. Rest assured, while it is best to schedule your shoot in the first 3 weeks, this doesn't mean that we won't be able to create stunning art for you past this stage.
We have plenty of experience working with older babies - in fact, a third of the newborns that come to our studio are slightly ‘older’ babies. We will book standard newborn shoots for up to 8 weeks old babies. And if your baby is up to 8 weeks old, chances are their newborn session will look exactly like a typical newborn session of a 1-2 weeks old baby.
How Will a Newborn Shoot With a Slightly Older Baby Look Like?
This shoot should feel like a typical newborn shoot. We go above and beyond to ensure that our newborn shoot will go as smoothly as possible. Sleep is very important for your baby as it would allow us to make use of specific poses. In our studio, we will play relaxing music as both your and your baby's relaxation is equally imporant. We also use a white noise machine known to help to put babies to sleep.
However, If he/she would be very active or unable to fall asleep during the session, we would be rather limited with the choice of poses and it might be best to reschedule for another day, at no extra cost for you. Don’t worry though, we have plenty of experience with active munchkins, so have plenty of poses that will work for them as well.
Luckily, we specialise in newborn sessions and we have lots of props for the posed styles to choose from. You can also opt for a more natural shoot, without many props. Either way, we are skillful in posing your baby safely, even if he/she is still awake.
Tip: For older babies, we often recommend going with a more natural style type of shoot. This is due to the fact that your baby would already have a personality on his/her own and it is a true blessing being able to capture it in the most natural ways!
